He may have just turned 18 in August but Shawn Mendes processes a musical mind of much ingenuity. Though many are quick to assume his music is skewed for a much younger generation (think Justin Bieber when he first started), Mendes has been kicking ass behind the scenes, pushing lyrical boundaries which set him apart from his musical peers.
First coming to attention in 2014, after being discovered through popular social video app Vine, the Canadian singer-songwriter steadily built a reputation for himself, releasing his debut album Handwritten in April 2015. With the album’s more »
On September 23, Shawn Mendes is set to release his sophomore album, “Illuminate.”
Leading up to its release, Mendes has released a bevy of fantastic (and criminally-underrated) tracks, our favorite so far being “Mercy.”
A week away, he continues to whet our thirst, unveiling what could be the album’s last instant-grat, a song called “Don’t Be A Fool.” The songs released so far, including “Don’t Be A Fool,” take a slow approach but the experience listening to each track has varied, in a really good way.

Shawn Mendes’ sophomore effort, titled Illuminate, is shaping up to be his best work yet. Its newest track “Mercy” is a rollercoaster of emotions, with Mendes singing to a lover asking them to be easy on him.

Illuminate is due on September 23, 2016 via Island Records.

Treat You Better as it is titled, is the first taste of Mendes’ forthcoming sophomore album, which he has teased about being a major upgrade from his chart-topping debut, Handwritten. “Pouring every single thing i have into this Album and its going to be surreal to share that with you,” he tweeted on May 30.
