Concert Review SXSW: Noname at Maggie Mae’s Rooftop Posted by Jesus A. • March 15, 2017

Chicago’s Fatimah Warner, known as Noname, officially kicked off the Music section of the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX last afternoon at Maggie Mae’s rooftop.

Through her rich, soft-spoken flow and laid-back performance style, Noname kept an overcapacity crowd enthralled for the duration of her 30-minute set. Performing mostly songs off her breakout debut album, Telefone, the 25-year-old rapper was the perfect choice to officially launch the festival loved by many.

Though her semblance and stage presence is at most times bubbly and tempered, the rapper’s lyrics show a different reality on close listen, covering topics such as police brutality and racial violence.
