It isn’t Thursday just yet but this is warranted, so TBT to the days they said Zayn Malik will “flop” without One Direction. Yep, that’s right. Back when Zayn Malik parted ways with the ‘biggest boy band in the world,’ a flock of fans – presumably the hurt and pressed ones – went on countless social media rants on why he was “done.” Hmm, little did they know that exactly a year after Malik left One Direction, he would release his debut album which ends up topping Billboard Hot 200, whilst making some notable accomplishments along the way.
Say what you want to say about how horrible the chart system is right now but being No. 1 is still worth a couple of bragging rights. For Malik, topping Billboard 200 with “Mind of Mine” was a no-brainer as not only is his album critically-acclaimed, all of it’s singles topped the charts at one point or the other.
Impressively enough, Mind of Mine, which was released on March 25, racked up “157,000 equivalent album units” (with both sales and streaming taken into account). Additionally, with the success of the album, Malik was crowned the first male U.K. solo artist to debut at No. 1 with their first album! Massive congrats to Zayn!
