When Tinashe released her debut single 2 On last year, she was fairly known. That almost immediately changed as 2 On, which was produced by DJ Mustard, went on to become one of 2014’s biggest songs. With the success of the single, Tinashe went on to release her debut album, also one of 2014’s most-acclaimed, Aquarius.
Though the critiques may disagree with her, recently, the LA-native revealed that album wasn’t a reflection of who she is and where she is going as an artist. “[With Aquarius], I knew what I wanted to do, but everybody that I was working with really had no clue who I was or what I wanted to do.” Adds Tinashe, “they came up with a lot of stuff that wasnât necessarily true to me.”
Going off of that, Tinashe enlisted some heavy-hitters for her sophomore album, Joyride. The first taste of the album landed today (Sept 9), in the form of a single entitled “Party Favors.” It was produced by Boi-1da and features Young Thug.
