Let’s rewind to last week, where we reintroduced some classic tunes to you all.

Like Yetunde’s pick “Electric Feel” by MGMT from 2007.  Sarah’s song choice the 2002 classic by Kylie Minogue, “Love At First Sight.” Everyone’s favorite R&B duet from the Early 2000s, “My Boo” by Usher Featuring Alicia Keys was chosen by Haley. And finally that leaves Janet Jackson’s contribution to the Nutty Professor Soundtrack from the year 2000, “Doesn’t Really Matter,” hand picked by Renee

Let’s keep the ball rolling with some tunes that are oldies but still goodies!

Renee: Jason Mraz – I’m Yours (2008)

Back when I was in high school all of the “cool” kids knew how to play the ukulele and the song they all played was Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” over and over and over again. Believe it or not, but I hated this song for the longest time solely for that reason. I loved all of Jason Mraz’s other work, But that song (and “Lucky Feat. Colbie Caillat) was just overplayed for me. I couldn’t walk down the halls without hearing some dude on a skateboard trying to play it. It was basically this generations version of “Wonderwall” at my school. I hated it up until I scored free front row tickets to see Mr. Mraz in San Francisco. That’s when I learned to truly appreciate the song.

Charts: “I’m Yours” spent a record 76 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart

AS-PiecesOfMe

Jesus: Ashlee Simpson – Pieces of Me (2004)

If this song was not your jam, you are lying. “Pieces of Me” is Ashlee Simpson’s debut single off of her first album Autobiography. There was something very compelling about Ashlee when she first broke into the music scene. She was marketed as the anti-Britney and Jessica Simpson’s rebellious little sister and I loved everything about it. Her messy, laidback look, raspy-yet-sweet vocals and this song’s catchy chorus was 11 year-old little me’s personal favorite (they might still be, to be honest).

“Pieces of Me” was written by Ashlee Simpson, Kara DioGuardi, John Shanks.

Charts: The song reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum in January 2005.

Madonna_HungUp

Sarah: Madonna – Hung Up (2005)

This is Madonna’s disco jam. It helps that it samples the ABBA classic ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ but along with that the whole vibe of the song & particularly the music video made everyone including myself love it. Madonna did some brilliant live performances of it while promoting it too.

Hung Up was the lead single from Madonna’s album ‘Confessions On A Dancefloor’ and she personally sought permission from ABBA to use their song as a sample.

Charts: Hung Up reached No. 1 in 41 countries including the USA and is one of the highest selling singles of all time with over 9 million copies sold.
