Throwback Throwback Thursday (February 5th, 2015 Edition) Posted by Staff at Trendio • March 5, 2015

It’s Thursday so you already know what that means.

It’s time for all the staff here at Trendio to remind you of some tracks that you might have forgotten.

Hopefully last weeks throwback tracks were a nice trip down memory lane.

Last Thursday Yetunde selected Sade’s 1984 classic “Smooth Operator.” Fast forward 11 years later and you get Celine Dion’s “Power Of Love,” chosen by Renee. Sarah selected Kelly Clarkson’s hit “Since You’ve Been Gone. “And that leaves Haley’s pick, everyone’s favorite duet from 2008 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown’s “No Air” to end the playlist.

Now that you’re all caught up, you should get ready for your weekly dose of musical nostalgia!

ooxqj5xv8xe2qx52Renee: Janet Jackson – Doesn’t Really Matter (2000): The only reason I EVER pulled out my moms Nutty Professor VHS tape was to fast forward to the end of the movie, PAST the credits just to see Janet’s music video for “Doesn’t Really Matter.” Doesn’t Really Matter was my all time favorite song from her All For You album (aside from the title track, All For You). But Doesn’t Really Matter was special because I managed to learn all the choreography from the video and I actually had one of those little robot dogs from the music video. So as you can imagine, I would spend a lot of my time as a kid re-creating this music video. I mean the song is just pop perfection. It was released in that era of the late 90s & early 2000s were pop music was just PERFECT and this song is no exception.

Charts: “Doesn’t Really Matter” peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart in the Summer of 2000.

imageYetunde: MGMT– Electric Feel (2007).  I can’t believe this song is almost 8 years old! ‘Electric Feel’ is the second single from MGMT’s ‘Oracular Spectacular’ album. The entire albums  psychedelic Indietronic/Hip-pop sound is well produced, innovative and fresh. This awesome duo make really good music.

Now the video for ‘Electric Feel’ is….trippy to say the least! The visuals are a combination of a ‘substance’ induced cosmic dream with stuffed animals playing instruments and/or a trippy inside look at Frodo Baggins dope forest party somewhere in ‘The Shire’.   I kid you not, this video is out there but overall very cool and fun.

Charts – Upon its initial release in 2007, Oracular Spectacular sold only about 17,000 copies in a week but has been a constant stellar since then. In 2009, the album sold over 1 million copies worldwide and was nominated for best international album at the 2009 BRIT Awards.

4JYNZMd4Sarah: Kylie Minogue – Love At First Sight (2002)

I don’t know where to start with this song. Basically I love it. My friends & I would request the DJ play this when we would go out and next thing you know we would be on the stage doing the moves from the music video! Every time! Still do it when the song comes on (doing them now). It also won me money & concert tickets in a radio competition so I love it a little bit more for that!

Love At First Sight was the third single from Kylie’s album ‘Fever‘. The video below is the version released in the USA, it’s slightly different to the album version.

Charts: Love At First Sight reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Dance Club Songs Chart. It peaked at No. 4 in Australia, No. 2 in the UK & reached No. 1 in Greece.

My Boo: Usher & Alicia Keys

Haley: My Boo – Usher & Alicia Keys (2004)

Do you remember girl? I was the one who gave you your first kiss. Yes, I remember boy, I was the one who said put your lips like this. Even before, all the fame and people, screaming your name. I was there, and you are my baaaaaaaaby. Yes, I loved the song so much I still remember the lyrics. “My Boo” is one of the best R&B songs ever made.

It was written by Usher, Alivia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, Adonis Shropshire, and Manuel Seal, Jr. and it landed on Usher’s platinum-selling studio album, Confessions.

Charts: Usher was on a winning streak when he released “My Boo.” It marked the third most successful single from his “Confessions” album, following “Yeah!” and “Burn.” “My Boo” was No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 for six solid weeks. Pretty impressive, huh?
